It is 1846,and the little town of Lyme Regis is battered by howling winter-gales. Dying and increasingly dependent on laudanum, Mary Anning reflects on her life. By challenging the status quo and making remarkable strides in a male dominated scientific world, her work threatens to disprove the very foundations she was raised on. Haunted by hallucinations of friends, enemies and even the creatures she spent her life hacking out of the living rock, Anning tries to make sense of her existence in her last moments. AsOne bring their signature blend of narrative, movement, music and striking visuals to tell this story about memory and coming to terms with the past Written for AsOne by Peter John Cooper
Directed by Marta Vella; Produced by AsOne theatre
Project managed by Vikesh Godhwani.

Background of the play -In 2012 AsOne theatre company  toured of a newly commissioned play for the Jurassic Coast Festival and the Olympics;  ‘The Cabinet Maker’s Daughter’. The play told the remarkable story of 19th Century Dorset fossil hunter, Mary Anning. She was the world’s first female palaeontologist who eventually had collectors beating a path to her Lyme Regis fossil depot. These men in turn named the fossils after themselves and Mary’s name receded into the mists of time forgotten. This is a much pacier, played  straight through 80 mins version with a distinct vision from director, Marta Vella. This talented director trained at RADA and under Anne Bogart. She works to create a special piece of resonance. Vella wants audiences to be viscerally  affected by AsOne Ensemble’s  work within the world of the playwright’s story; to feel deeply, as well as understand more, about the world created, and the story told. To do this she works with sharing, crafting, and polishing ideas with her performers. Ideas are cheap but seeded, and fully grown they create very special theatre.  With highly researched, rhythmical writing by Peter John Cooper and multi-media techniques of the AsOne Ensemble - this performance should make you physically tingle!
