One evening, psychoanalyst Elizabeth – Liz – Burns is paid a visit by Nicki White, a young woman who is subjected every night to troubling dreams of a man who steals her from her bed and takes her to a dark house by the sea. Liz is instantly alerted to the fact that the young woman has suffered some form of abuse during her childhood. As the play unfolds, it seems more likely that Liz’s own husband, Jack, was responsible for Nicki’s traumatic childhood; however, the truth behind Nicki’s visit goes much deeper than that. With the help of her brother Billy, Nicki manages to turn the Burns’ household upside down; can Jack and Liz’s marriage be rebuilt after Nicki tries to tear their lives apart?
